Health Checks

Your pet can’t always tell you when they have a problem, so make sure you bring them to see us regularly

In the wild, showing any form of weakness leaves animals open to attack from a predator. This means that many have naturally evolved to hide signs of pain and discomfort, which makes it difficult for you to tell when something is wrong.

For that reason, it is important that you bring your pet in to see one of our vets for a regular health check and full examination. In the early stages of their life we recommend a check-up every six months, so that we can be sure that they are growing and developing as they should. After their first birthday, annual examinations will be sufficient. For older pets, or those with ongoing conditions, we may recommend more frequent check-ups.

During a health check, a vet will examine your pet thoroughly from nose to tail, including their eyes, ears, teeth, paws, skin and coat.

They will also listen to their heart and lungs and feel their abdomen to ensure there are no internal problems.

You will be able to ask any questions about your pet’s health or behaviour at any time – our team are always happy to be of assistance and explain anything you don’t understand.

If your vet does not find anything unusual or concerning, you will then be free to simply make your pet’s next appointment for a year’s time. However, if your pet requires further tests or investigation, this will be explained to you thoroughly, along with all the options available to you.
