Microchipping

Don’t risk losing your pet – a microchip could make all the difference

You know as well as we do how much pets like to explore. When they’re following the trail of an interesting scent it can be very difficult to keep them by your side. But if your pet should ever wander a little too far from home, a simple microchip could ensure that you are reunited with your companion as soon as possible.

A microchip is a small chip enclosed in a bio-compatible casing. It is inserted almost painlessly under your pet’s skin between their shoulder blades, where the surrounding tissue keeps it in place. The chip carries a unique code and when entered into the national pet database, this code reveals your contact details so that you can be informed of your pet’s whereabouts.

Microchips are a much more permanent method of identification than a tag or collar, which can easily fall off and get lost, or even be purposely removed. It’s secure too – only certain authorities like veterinary practices, council rangers and animal charities hold scanners, so you don’t have to worry about your details being easily accessible to the general public.

Statistics have shown that one in three pets will get lost at some point in their life, and microchipped pets are up to three times more likely to be reunited with their owners.

Microchipping at the Bunbury and Eaton Vet Clinics costs just $60
