Question: Hi. Our cat has really long eye teeth that protrude into/over his bottom lip. He has little sores where they jab into his lips. Is this a problem at all? Or can it be eased for him in any way? Hard to get a picture…gives him a bit of a goofy smile any advice please? Thanks
Answer from Dr Braden, Bunbury and Eaton Vet Clinics: It’s worth a vet check to ensure it’s the teeth causing the lesion, as there are other things that can cause lip lesions in cats. If it is the teeth causing problems then crown reduction can be considered but I don’t think anyone locally does that procedure. There are vet dentists in Perth so it could be done there if required.
Other conditions which can cause sores on cats lips include eosinophilic plaques, cancerous changes, and other types of trauma,
