Micro-chipping has been compulsory for cats since 2011 and for dogs since 2013.
The majority of our clients have happily complied, knowing that if their pet is lost or stolen, it can be easily identified by vets, rangers or animal shelter staff and returned home quickly.
It has come to our attention that certain batches of microchips have become faulty and are no longer being detected by microchip scanners. Pets that are picked up by rangers or brought into vet clinics may not be re-united with their owners as a result.
To address this dangerous situation, we are offering a free microchip “Check and Replace” service. If your pet has been micro-chipped, we ask that you call us to make an appointment to have your pet’s microchip scanned. If the microchip is working well, and not of an identified problem batch, no further action is required. If it is working but of a faulty batch, we will insert a second chip at no charge, and complete paperwork to notify the central microchip registration bodies of the second chip. If the microchip is not working, we will insert a new chip, again at no charge, complete the paperwork, and we can all feel relieved that a potential disaster has been averted.
This offer is not restricted to our clients. We are offering this free service to anyone who wants to have their pet’s microchip checked, regardless of where the microchip was inserted.
We do ask that you make an appointment to avoid a long wait. Please bring any information you have on your pet’s previous microchip so we can update details.
