Pet Owner Information
What to expect following referral to SW Vet Specialist Surgery
How does the referral process work?
- Your primary care veterinarian will complete an online referral form
- We will contact you once we have received this form to schedule a consultation at our Eaton Vet Clinic
- If surgery is required, this will be scheduled following your consultation
- We will provide updates to your primary care vets throughout your pet’s treatment and a thorough summary will be provided following discharge from hospital
What to expect from your consultation
- On the day of your appointment, we will discuss your pet’s clinical signs and any diagnostic procedures that have been performed by your primary care veterinarians. We will develop a plan for any additional diagnostic procedures that may be required such as CT scans, additional radiographs (x-rays) or biopsies.
- In most cases, any further diagnostic tests will be planned for the day of your consultation to avoid unnecessary travel; however, in some instances these procedures will need to be staged.
What to expect at the time of surgery
- Please ensure that your pet is fasted from 10pm the night before surgery. If your pet is on any medications or if they have specific dietary requirements, please bring these along with you on the day of surgery.
- At the time of hospital admission our surgical team will go through the relevant paperwork with you and can address any questions that you may have.
- Your pet will undergo surgery in our purpose-built theatre. Most surgical cases will be required to stay in hospital overnight so that we can ensure a safe and comfortable recovery.
- A discharge appointment with our surgical team will be organised the day after surgery to discuss postoperative care requirements and any recheck appointments that may be required.
Payment
- To minimise the stress of having sick or injured pets in hospital, we will provide detailed estimates of costs prior to any treatment and will provide regular updates throughout your pet’s hospitalisation.
- We require a deposit at the time of admission prior to any diagnostics or surgical procedures and the balance is required on discharge.
- We offer GapOnly for applicable insurance providers and accept ZipMoney.
