Meet Our Specialist
Dr Brett de Bruyn

Dr Brett is a registered specialist in small animal surgery, having completed extensive postgraduate training and certification examinations with the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. He enjoys all aspects of surgery, with particular interests in orthopaedic biomechanics, trauma surgery, fracture management, and wound reconstruction.

Brett graduated from Murdoch University in 2015 and spent two years working in small animal general practice in Bunbury before heading to the UK for 12 months. Upon returning home to Australia, Brett commenced further training to become a specialist surgeon. Brett completed an internship in small animal surgery at Western Australian Veterinary Emergency and Speciality (WAVES) in 2019, and during this time he was accepted as a Member of the Surgical Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Brett subsequently completed an internship, followed by a three-year residency training program in small animal surgery at The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University. During this time, Brett was awarded a Graduate Diploma of Education, a Master of Veterinary Clinical Studies and a Master of Veterinary Surgery. Following completion of his residency in 2024, Brett returned to WAVES where he worked in a busy private practice referral surgical service. Brett successfully completed board certifying examinations and was welcomed as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2025 and, as such, is a registered specialist in small animal surgery.
Brett is interested in all aspects of small animal surgery with particular interest in orthopaedic biomechanics, trauma surgery, fracture management and skin and wound reconstruction.
Outside of work Brett loves spending time outdoors with his young family and is very excited to be back in the South West. Brett also enjoys a weekly Parkrun and is looking forward to getting back into open water swimming.

We prioritise clear, timely communication with both pet owners and referring veterinarians, and are committed to a collaborative, patient-centred approach.
We’re here to complement your practice, not compete with it. To ensure your clients remain yours, we uphold a 12-month referral exclusivity agreement, meaning we will not accept referred clients as regular patients during that period.
